CONTEXT
On the south coast of England, Adur and Worthing is a district known for their wide skies, beaches and strong community spirit. With local government reorganisation and devolution on the horizon, the councils wanted to ensure that local voices shaped the priorities for the future — from housing and coastal climate resilience to youth spaces and town centres. Thriving Together was launched to capture what matters most, laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration between communities, councils and partners.
COMMISSION
The Place Bureau worked alongside Ideas Alliance to co-design the engagement process using our Collaborative Place Futures toolkit. We created the graphic language for the project and helped turn 700+ community ideas into clear priorities. Our role included analysing results from both street-level conversations and the online platform Go Vocal, and producing the final report that now underpins Adur & Worthing’s devolution proposals.

TESTIMONIAL
“The graphic campaign helped Thriving Together stand out and underpin its intentions. Horizons are an invitation to play in the space between what’s familiar and what must be imagined. The impact was clear: we heard from people I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting in five years of work locally.”
Dr Jody Aked, Ideas Alliance
“The collaborative place futures toolkit was a joy to work with. It encouraged creative facilitation with clear structure and the inspiration to go adapt ideas to different events and locations - including open mic nights, climate talks, pubs and festivals.”
